Your photos are scattered across SD cards, old drives, a NAS and a Google Takeout zip — and half of them say they were taken today. FolioSort turns that mess into one library you can browse, search and trust, right on the folders your photos already live in.
Nothing to import. No account. No cloud. No subscription. Native on macOS and Windows, and every bit of the AI runs on your own computer — it works with Wi-Fi off.
What it does
Sorts by the real date. Reads the capture date, camera and GPS stored inside each file — not the "date modified" that every copy and cloud sync destroys — and files everything into folders you design, like
2024/06 June/Lisbon. Full preview first, copy mode by default, and every batch can be undone.Finds any photo by describing it. "Kids at the beach", "the dog in the snow", or the text inside a photo, like a receipt or a street sign. Face recognition gathers every photo of a person. All on-device, nothing uploaded.
Shows your whole library without importing it. Timeline, map, people and events across every drive you own. Unplugged drives stay visible as greyed tiles.
Cleans what sorting exposes. Exact and visually similar duplicates, blurry shots, screenshots, and the best frame of every burst. Everything goes to the Trash — never deleted outright.
Fixes the files themselves. AI keywords, place names, missing dates and wrong camera clocks are written into standard XMP and IPTC fields that Lightroom, Bridge, Capture One and digiKam read. Your work outlives the app.
Backs up and verifies. Hash-checked backup copies, plus a health check that catches silent corruption (bit rot) and restores the damaged file from the verified copy.
Gets you out of Google Photos. Repairs Takeout exports by writing the real dates and GPS back from the .json sidecars. Free, unlimited and offline.
Who it's for
Families with twenty years of photos spread over five drives. Photographers juggling RAW + JPEG + video — 91 formats, including CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG, Blackmagic BRAW and RED R3D, never converted. And anyone leaving Google Photos or iCloud who wants real, portable folders that any app can open, with or without FolioSort.
